Dear Readers
It can be easy to put the mind above the heart.
We’re caught up in fear, anxiety, and stress which are understandable given the times.
I’m sensing a growing need for us to come back more intently to our hearts.
Together, we are being called to root ourselves in our compassionate and loving center of being.
The Heart Chakra
The heart chakra, is the center point of our 7 major chakras.
It’s where our capacity for unconditional love, acceptance, kindness, and balance resides.
It helps us to be non-judgmental, and to address situations from a place of love rather than fear.
How to work with the heart Chakra
1. You can work with the heart chakra in many ways.
2. You might catch yourself stuck in judgement, fear, or a sense of being separate from the rest.
3. Invite your awareness to rest in the heart space for a few minutes.
4. Closing your eyes, imagine that each inhalation opens your heart a little bit wider…
5. And that each exhalation softens any barriers you may be holding on to.
Loving Kindness Meditation
There’s another beautiful practice from the Buddhist tradition.
It’s called metta, or loving kindness meditation.
These meditations can help to create an environment where positive emotions towards yourself and others can be strengthened.
Practicing Loving Kindness
Metta meditations invite you to close your eyes, ground through your breath, and then witness the following:
1. First, ourselves.
2. Then one by one, a loved one.
3. An acquaintance.
4. Someone we have difficulties with.
5. And then the entire world.
6. Holding each of these people, or the world as a full organism, in heart and mind.
7. We can take a few moments to repeat:
May you be safe.
May you be loved.
May you be healthy.
May you be at peace.
When Can I Use Metta Meditation?
This is a beautiful practice to explore as a formal meditation.
It’s also suitable in simple moments, such as while in the shower, when washing your hands, or cooking.
I hope these simple practices bring you increased peace and love.
Wishing you many blessings from the bottom of my own heart,
Jason
