ESJAY JONES, PRODUCER OF GREY DAZE, COVERS SLIPKNOT’S SONG “ DUALITY”

SSouth African born producer / songwriter, Esjay Jones (​www.esjayjones.com​) has been highlighted recently by the Recording Academy as well as producing not one, but five songs on the enhanced recordings of Chester Bennington’s first band “Grey Daze”, featuring artists like Head and Munky from Korn, Jasen Rauch of Breaking Benjamin and more.

Better known for her number 1 singles in South Africa, as well as her work with artists like Jeffree Star, Sean Kingston, Escape The fate, Souleye (Husband of Alanis Morissette) and more recently, Alien Ant Farm and Crazy Town, Esjay has been building a repertoire of hip hop and metal influenced productions rumoured to feature some of her famous friends including Love & Death vocalist, Brian “Head” Welch.

“I’ve been working on this project in between producing and writing with bands for the past two years. I decided to pull the trigger and officially launch this project with a cover of SlipKnot’s ‘duality’ featuring my good friend, Terry Corso of Alien Ant Farm on guitar” say Jones. “I’ve always had an obsessive love for the nu-metal era, so it’s been a great quarantine process to produce and record this track in isolation and then finish it with a couple of friends from around the world via the internet”

The track is produced and sung by Esjay who states “I decided to leave the very first original one-pass demo vocal take on the track. It was initially recorded a semi-tone higher but there was an uncertainty, imperfection and vulnerability to the vocal that I didn’t want to mess with. I’m a big fan of the imperfect. The slip and slide of the vocals and the backing vocals not being perfectly in-time, gave it a live, erratic quality which I felt sat well with this production.

Mixed by former Betraying the Martyrs guitarist, Lucas D’Angelo in Paris, France and Mastered by Maor AppleBaum (Faith No More), this track has a unique blend of analog, industrial and trap elements mixed with a haunting female vocal scream. Esjay has hinted that the over-all project is heavily influenced by Deftones and Chino Moreno’s unmistakable vocal performance…we are looking forward to hearing the rest of this project due late 2020.
