SA rocker Stanley June releases mega 17 track album!

South African rock artist, Stanley June is proud to release his third full-length album, titled ‘Oceans’. Music lovers can brace themselves for seventeen brand-new songs, truly making this an album to savour, relish and enjoy in all its rock ‘n roll glory.

“This one’s definitely different. ‘Oceans’ is a more mature release and truly captures everything I’ve been through leading up to this point musically, emotionally and mentally. I’ve had this recurring dream about falling into the ocean, but instead of being scared, I was happy to leave that sense of comfort behind. That’s where the main theme for this album originated: perhaps something that seems terrifying at first is actually comforting and hitting the water isn’t actually bad at all. It’s actually freedom… something beautiful.” – Stanley June

Stanley has been active in the music circuit for the past seven years as a solo rock artist.  His music can be heard on radio stations in South Africa (such as MixFM, RSG, SAFM, MFM, Kovsie FM) and abroad on stations in Germany, Austria and the USA. He has made television appearances on Expresso (SABC 3), Op Die Spyskaart (VIA), Tyres and Braaiers (SABC 3) and his music have been used in multiple episodes of the travel show,  Vrydag4Uur (VIA). He is no stranger to the live circuit and has shared the stage with musical heavyweights like Dan Patlansky, Albert Frost, Jesse Clegg and Mark Haze, to name but a few.

In true Stanley June style, ‘Oceans’ seamlessly blends the songwriting elements from the classic rock era and the guitar riffs and energy from their modern counterparts into his own unique memorable rock anthems. “Finding my unique voice was an important quest in creating this album and it took a lot of introspection. I really wanted to merge my experience with strong, relatable song themes. I am still evolving and learning as a songwriter and performer. It’s exciting hanging in there and just riding the wave!”, Stanley explains.

Although mainly a solo project, ‘Oceans’ sees Stanley collaborating with other musicians. Andy Maritz (Dan Patlansky, Joshua Na Die Reën) can be heard on the drums throughout. “Since the word ‘go’ it’s been a phenomenal relationship. He’s a great guy with a big heart and he’s always willing to go the extra mile. And you can hear the endless work Stanley put in – it bleeds through every release. ‘Oceans’ really hits the spot. The album has so many great hooks, sing-a-longs and will execute great live!”, Andy attests. Listeners can also look forward to a vocal collaboration with rising talent, Joe Thompson, as well as a guest guitar performance by Regardt Scheepers (Jesse Clegg, Appel, Dominic Neill).

This time around Stanley took the route of self-producing the album, which took eighteen months in total to create. “Having the freedom to self-produce, I was not limited to time or creative restraints, which was very liberating, but also very challenging. But I couldn’t be happier! The album really speaks to me and represents who I am, so I hope listeners can also relate in some way or another.”

Leading up to the album’s release, Stanley has released two singles, “Right Where We Belong” and “One More Night”. Both enjoyed favourable reviews, including over 12 000 streams on Spotify and spent seven weeks on the Kovsie FM Top 10 Rock Chart.

“Stanley June transitioned into a mature sound with this album. The guitar and drum choices are brave and refreshing. With this album, he managed to find a great balance between hard rock and ballads, with the lyrics coming across deeply personal and honest.” – Lundi Khoisan, MixFM 93.8 radio presenter

“While a generation has lost their home in MK89, they can find sanctuary in Stanley June’s latest album, which has a superb way of making you feel nostalgic while feeling satisfied with the future. As the sounds of guitars drift away from the center of the general music scene these days, it’s redeeming to hear this well-harmonized body of work on ‘Oceans’.” – Richard Chemaly, Kovsie FM 97.0 radio presenter
