Dear Readers
There is no denying it.
We are going through such tumultuous times this year.
It started with major bushfires across Australia and other parts of the world in the early days of the year.
Then COVID-19 and recently the Black Lives Matter movement protests and riots.
Ironically, I’d assumed 2020 was going to be an amazing year.
I was so excited by the opportunities that would unfold.
Well it didn’t turn out as I had hoped. But who am I to direct the outcomes of life?
Yes, we can all make goals and set plans but we can’t determine life events.
The sooner we accept this, the easier our life will unfold.
Maybe we will look back on this and see this time as a major shift in humanity.
I can feel it.
For now, I want to share with you my top 6 tips to help us during these difficult times.
1. Put Pen To Paper
Grab your pen and begin to put pen to paper. (Yes, for this one I suggest getting away from your PC).
There’s something about the connection of grabbing the pen and transferring your thoughts from your mind, down onto paper.
There are studies that have shown that journaling any negative feelings helps reduce stress.
It works in an accumulative way too. So, start today (even if you’re not stressed)!
2. Find Your Mantra
Select a positive affirmation that makes you feel alive.
One that uplifts you.
Make it short and sweet – for instance as an example; “I feel alive and energized.”
Chant it repeatedly out loud or even silently until you begin to truly feel it deep within.
Use this anytime you are feeling stressed out.
You will find a sense of peace and well-being within minutes.
3. Turn Off Your Phone
Today we feel like we need to be ‘connected’ at every moment of every day.
Like our life depends upon this connection lifeline.
This is simply not the case.
In fact, this dependency towards connection can actually make you feel even more isolated.
Take an hour away from your cell phone. Turn it off. Be mindful for the moment.
Go outside in nature. Study the stars – I promise you; they will never look better!
4. Talk It Out With A Friend (Or a professional )
If you have anyone you can speak to about your feelings, this is one of the best reliefs possible.
To be listened to on a heartfelt level. To be understood. It can lift a weight from your shoulders within minutes.
If you need someone to talk to and don’t have anyone around, I suggest a free counselling service.
For instance in Australia, we have Lifeline – these are trained volunteer counsellors.
5. Exercise (Even for 2 minutes!)
OK, I know this can freak people out. Exercise??!!! Are you kidding me?
Well, here’s the good news. It doesn’t have to be long.
It may not make the anxiety disappear immediately, but it will diminish its intensity.
Get down and do 10 push ups. Jog on the spot for 1 minute. Feel the relief almost instantly.
6. Help Other People
Studies have shown that helping other people, such as through doing volunteer work, can ease the burden on your body and mind.
In the book “Caring for your mind” Professor Cooper says “Helping people who are often in situations worse than yours will help you put your problems into perspective. The more you give, the more resilient your feel.”
It shifts your feelings from a place of powerlessness to confidence and a deep connection with the world we live in.
You are worthy.
You are magnificent.
Now it’s time to shine.
By giving permission for yourself to shine, you will help others to shine with love too!
Sending you all green lights and love,
Jason
