Each week SPOTLIGHT ON… shines a light on an exceptional South African entertainer who is currently “living the dream” internationally, and flying the SA flag high for us. This week it will be James and Anel Alexander. Whilst based in Los Angeles, they are currently in South Africa and we’ll be chatting to them as to WHY.

James and Anel Alexander need no introduction to South African TV and film audiences; excelling both in front of the cameras as actors or behind them as producers.

Anel is instantly recognisable for her roles in two of South Africa’s most popular, local soap operas, 7de Laan and Binnelanders as well as other credits including Gertroud Met Rugby, Rhythm City, Pasella and more. She has proven to be the darling of the local silver screen, starring in box office hit films like Semi-Soet, Faan se Trein and Mooirivier.

James’s 20 year career in the industry has kept him in constant demand in South Africa, England and the USA. His affinity for accents has led to him working alongside the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Clare Danes and Daniel Radcliffe on international shows shooting in South Africa. he has most recently been seen in the popular MNET drama series Trackers which is currently broadcasting on HBO’s sister channel Cinemax.

Under their Scramble Productions banner, this dynamic duo has produced highly successful films including Discreet, Semi-Soet and Sink, garnering critical and public acclaim and various awards.

Based in Los Angeles since 2016, James and Anel continue to distinguish themselves in their various roles both in front and behind the camera.

James has most recently worked alongside Keanu Reeves and James Corden and can currently be found starring in the Sony International series Alex Rider available now on Amazon Prime UK.

Anel is actively pursuing her producer ambitions as one of just a handful of female producers shaping the landscape of South African cinema, locally and abroad.

This powerhouse couple and their passion for creating magic on screen ensures that the names James and Anel Alexander will continue to be synonymous with quality in film and television, here in South Africa and their new home in the USA.
