Reggie Peace: Ek Kan. Jy Kan.

“When you feel like giving up, remind yourself and someone close to you:  I can be anything I want to be… and so can you!” – Reggie Peace on his latest Afrikaans single, EK KAN. JY KAN.

The brand-new single of the versatile entertainer, Reggie Peace (Reginald Hufkie) hits straight home.  EK KAN. JY KAN. (I CAN. YOU CAN.)  This popular South African actor, musician, scriptwriter and songwriter has been working in the entertainment industry since 2011, but he’s seen the dark side of life and want to encourage people through his music to remind themselves on a daily basis that they can achieve anything they want to.

Reginald grew up in Schauderville, Port Elizabeth. After losing both his parents to Tuberculosis as a teenager, he and his brothers were placed in an orphanage.

“When I grew up I was continuously told that I will never get anywhere in life… that I am not good enough.  Because of the abuse I went through as a little boy, I found myself in 2018 (more than 15 years later) where I still battled that same voice in my head, telling me that I am not good enough”, says Reggie.

“That’s when I decided to write the song EK KAN. JY KAN. (I CAN. YOU CAN.)  I wrote it to introduce a new dialogue to my brain.  Instead of hearing the same old story that I will never achieve anything in life, I started telling myself that I can become anything in life that I wanted to”, he says with a smile.

Reggie says he does not only remind himself, but his heart goes out to a lot of the the youth of South Africa that’s being brought under the false impression that they cannot achieve anything and that they are not good enough.  “Champ, I am telling you now… YOU CAN!” he exclaims convincingly!

In the second verse of the song he talks specifically to young men in their early twenties who feels as if the whole world is resting on their shoulders.  According to Reggie, this is a very difficult phase, because it is a transision phase to adulthood and also the specific phase where many young people give up on their dreams.

“When you feel like giving up, remind yourself and someone close to you:  I can be anything I want to be… and so can you!” he concludes.

The song was produced by the blind music producer from Johannesburg, DJ Darkness (Calvin Botha) who’s been producing all Reggie’s music to date.

Reggie already released quite a few original singles which include; FrequencyDo It – PeacemakerHoekom?Kos Op Die Tafel (KODT)All That Matters, Better, MOVE and recently he also released the single IN DIE VLEI, which is also the theme song for the Afrikaans television series, Arendsvlei.
