KKNK Mothership Sessions: Emo Adams UNPLUGGED
With guest artists Omar Adams and Rotas The Rapper
Thursday 6 August at 20:00
Emo Adams is one of South Africa’s most successful and inspiring artists. He is also the presenter and executive producer of Maak my Famous on kykNET, as well as the presenter of arguably the most popular Afrikaans television game show Noot vir Noot on SABC 2. Adams, who grew up in the Cape Flats, has been performing since the age of nine. His extraordinary skills as a singer and entertainer has made him a living legend and his love and support for new talent, has lifted the spirits of many young kids with big dreams.
For this special episode of the KKNK Mothership Sessions, Adams performs unplugged with a 4-piece band. His dad, Omar “Boeta Maan” Adams makes a special guest appearance and the young, upcoming artist Rotas the Rapper also performs a tune with Adams.
Adams says that fans might be surprised as the overall feel and tone of this concert shows a side of him that does not often feature in his performances. He says: “It is not the usual lights, camera, action show. The Mothership production team focused 100% on the artists, which made the recording of this concert a more intimate experience. It reminds me of the MTV Unplugged Sessions – the audience gets to know the artists in an open, toned-down manner.”
It was also an honour for Adams to share the stage with this father for this special concert: “We rarely perform together. One of the songs that we do on the show together, ‘O Vader’, is a song that my dad wrote to the music of ‘Il Mondo’. The song was written from the perspective of someone who lives on the street, asking for God to look after our children. This song is meaningful to me on many levels. I am a father too and both of us also work with the development of musical skills of kids.”
The musicians performing with Adams have been friends for many years, which gives the show a seamless, rounded off feel. The musical director and on bass is Sean de Vries, Lance Rhoda on cajon, Brynne Bailey on piano and August West plays the saxophone.
Executive producer of KKNK Mothership Studios Sessions, Carien Loubser, says: “There is something extraordinary that happens when artists have not performed together for a while. This show is beautifully raw and honest.”
