The Bangover release new Single and video “Cigarettes and Self-Destruction”

About the band

The Bangover was founded at the end of 2018 by lifelong friends and partners in metaphorical crime, Sarel Reynolds and Herman Vermeulen. They have long had a loving history with creating and consuming music on the heavier side of the spectrum. Sarel studied at The Campus of Performing Arts, after which he refined his craft at Berklee College. He is most prominently known for playing bass in The Anti Retro Vinyls as well as Parts and Fiction. Sarel is currently undergoing an apprenticeship as a luthier at JD Kustom. The project was formed in the pursuit of making metal by awarding themselves full creative freedom in the writing and recording process. In December of 2018 the duo went about writing and recording demos with the goal of the album being to create the music that they wanted to make on their terms, free from feeling pressured to meet the expectation of others. The debut album is titled “Snakes in Suits” which consists of lyrical themes from whether extraterrestrial life exists, to their musing of life and death.

About the Music

The Bangover single “Cigarettes and Self-Destruction” is out now on all major streaming platforms and online stores, You can also find them rambling on social media. By incorporating catchy yet heavy riffs, lyrics that share the band’s ideas and views on the world accompanied by neck-twisting breakdowns, uplifting vocals and melodic guitar harmonies, they set out to refine their sound throughout 1 7 songs. The latest single is called “Cigarettes and Self-Destruction” and it’s accompanied by a music video. The song looks at addiction from an individual and societal perspective. Harry writes the following regarding the latest release: When we wrote cigarettes and self-destruction, we wanted to highlight some of the problems that go hand in hand with addiction. Not necessarily the most obvious issues but more so the societal issues and the inability that society has when it comes to dealing with these afflicted individuals when they need help the most. People would often view their addictions as less of a problem than other’s. Not only is it counterintuitive to becoming aware of your own shortcomings and working through them, it allows for the “US” vs “THEM” mentality to take root and destroys the common ground we have when dealing with our addictions. It alleviates the guilt we should rightly feel for not helping our fellow man when they’re at their most vulnerable. With this song we just wanted to reiterate that in order to break free from addiction we first have to want to help ourselves and secondly we have to recognise that the addictive behaviour we see in others is more of the same within ourselves – so be compassionate, help each other out where you can, stop judging people when we’re in the same boat and don’t be a fcking dick about it.
