Track single Review: Scanner- Monster

Review Done By: Duzzy Clayton

As some of you may know, I am a huge Scanner fan and have also interviewed them and reviewed some of their work before. I am very happy to say that we are back with a review of another song from them, namely ‘Monster’.

Most of the songs the band has released so far are more Punk; or at least have punk roots in the song and the sound of their band’s music. But when the song ‘Monster’ starts, although having the unmistakable punk Scanner sound, it brings to mind the sound of a Blues rock song in the riff as it starts. I think that is why it is one of my favourite songs, because it really shows what the band can do aside from the purely punk sound.

I really love lead vocalist Joe Brady’s voice in this song. When he sings each lyric you can hear the different phrases and sounds his voice brings to the song; and once again, like so many of their other songs, this song tells a story through the lyrics. The music carrying the song is also well done; and as mentioned before, the Blues riff of the guitar can be heard throughout the song with cool clever lead solos coming through in different parts of the songs. The drumming feature of the song lends itself very well to the music and is a great accompaniment to the song.

I always try to imagine myself in a place where I could be listening to this song; whether it is in a car or over dinner. I could imagine that this song would go over well listening to it while you’re getting ready to go on a night out; especially if you’re going to watch a live band. Speaking of live bands, I would love to see Scanner live, particularly with this song. I think that would be a great experience.

As mentioned in previous reviews and interviews with the band, Joe has a huge fascination with things such as monsters and the paranormal. This song certainly lends itself to that very well; not only with the title of the song but also in the music video of the song, which has images of monsters and Godzilla-like dinosaurs in black and white.

Once again, well done to Scanner on another well -produced track.

Lyrics to the song

Stomping with a sound of thunder

Chomping on military armor

Clawing from a hot volcano

Fire breathing lizard monster

Monster walking on the nation

Feeding on the population

Monster! Roar!

Invasion of a primeval monster

Marching rampage of destruction

Burning with a breath of hell fire

Fire breathing lizard monster

Monster walking on the nation

Feeding on the population

Monster! Roar!

Shaking with violent tremors

Crushing the world in its path

Greenlight glows radioactive

Fire breathing lizard monster

Monster walking on the nation

Feeding on the population

Monster! Roar!

Monster walking on the nation

Feeding on the population

Monster walking on the nation

Feeding on the population

Monster! Monster! Monster! Monster!
