Kenny Hughes – Destiny

Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton

I have a confession to make: I’m a huge fan of Kenny Hughes, so when his new track landed up in my email box I knew it is going to be a great track. I just wasn’t prepared for just how good it was going to be. Kenny is known as a Blues, Funk and Rock musician; and although his new track features elements of Blues in it, I feel this track takes a new direction from what Kenny has released before. It has more of a Rock sound while still paying tribute to his Blues roots. I believe Kenny will continue to keep his loyal fans happy, yet will impress them with the slightly new sound; and I’m also sure he will be picking up some new fans along the way as well.

Destiny was recorded with Evert Snyman who helped record and produced the track; and although Kenny is the talent behind the track, I understand Evert did bring a lot to the table. Together they produced and released something amazing. In my opinion, taking nothing away from Kenny’s previous work, this is some of his best work and I see this track doing very well on commercial and internet radio stations around the world.

Kenny Hughes’s voice on the track is just amazing; and if I was to compare it to other similar bands, the bands that come to mind are Indie Dog, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or early Dire Straits.

Destiny is a perfect track to have in your playlist when you’re on a road trip, or just having a lekker braai with some good friends or family around a fire.

The vocals are not the only good thing about this track; the music and instrumentals, i.e. guitars, bass and drums are amazing too and really give that Funk kind of sound. Look out for the ending because just when you think the song is over, there is a bar or two of some great guitar work to end off the song, which adds a great bit of extra to the track.

I would like to congratulate Kenny on a really great song and I look forward to what he releases next. He is one of the hardest working musicians, who has just changed the game; it’s time we all take notice and listen.
