Single Review: Fear Of Falling- Closer
Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton
South Africa’s favourite Rock Super Group, namely Fear of Falling, have just come out with a new track called Closer. The band is best known for their original work, but the band’s recently released track, Closer, is actually a great rendition of the Kings of Leon original track, Closer.
Fear of Falling is made up of Ross Harding (Vocals), Brendon McCaig (Bass), Lloyd Timke (Guitar), Dale Schnettler (Drums), made of band members from Prime Circle and also from You, Me and The Harmony & Maybe in The Sequel. As well as other awesome solo projects, this band has got the talent to take this super group all the way to the top, and I think they are doing just that.
For those of you who are Kings of Leon fans will know that the track, Closer, is a very awesome song and not much needs to be changed or done because the original is already great. But then comes Fear of Falling and managed to, in my opinion, make the song better. The few things I look for in a cover are the following: Did the band make the song their own, when covering a song, I like to see if the band made the song their own and added their own flavour to the track. Any band can learn to play a song and make it sound exactly like an original, but when a band can take a song and make it their own but still pay respect to the original, then to me it makes a great cover song, and ladies and gentleman Fear of Falling have done exactly that. They have managed to play around with the chords and vocal ranges but still managed to capture the mood and tempo of the original.
I can see myself listening to this track while driving slowly on a highway and just needing some time to think. We all have those days where we need to be playing a great playlist and just driving and this song is the perfect single to do just exactly that.
Take nothing away from Kings of Leon. It is their original song and they made it the type of song we have all come to love, but I do urge you to give the Fear of Falling version a chance. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
I should also make mention the band have had a line-up change in terms of getting a new vocalist, namely Ross Harding, and this is the 2nd release song from the band I have heard with him doing vocal duties and once again I am impressed, he is taking the band to new high levels and I am really enjoying what he is bringing to the table
I would like to congratulate Fear of Falling for making such a great rendition of an already great track. The band have gone from strength to strength and I cannot wait to see what the future holds next for them.
