The Little Mermaid at The People’s Theatre

A little earlier this year, I ended a review highlighting the excitement of this upcoming production, and now I’m writing about it. There was a lot of excitement and expectation leading up to this event.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid reboot is scheduled for release in 2023. The trailer has caused colossal excitement from a generation of children who have loved the 80s original. While some were excited about all the wrong reasons. Regardless of where you stand on this debate, this Little Mermaid is the only one you will get this year, and certainly worthwhile.
Now while six-year-olds are easy to excite, their expectations can be quite high. I’m pleased to report that this production lived up to all the excitement and perhaps surpassed these. There was notable excitement when one of the cast, was instantaneously recognized from the previous production. Much to the delight of little faces.
Another level of delight is that all of the classic sing-along numbers have been included, most notably “Under the Sea.” Though let’s not forget “Part of your World” and “She’s in Love.” The cast, costumes, and backdrops were spectacular, allowing for the seamless shifts between undersea and land. Breathing new life into a well-loved classic.
This production is a fantastic outing for both the little ones and their chaperones. The production will be running throughout the festive period, so if you are looking for something to do and feel like something different this is certainly for you.
