MORE ABOUT THE VILAKAZI SIBLINGS:
Born in Soweto, Vicky and Nkululeko Vilakazi came from a humble family; both parents were Pastors and Ministers of the Gospel.
Their parents couldn’t afford to pay for Tertiary education and so the siblings turned to their passion – Music, to try and earn a living.
The Vilakazi siblings have been a part of many groundbreaking milestones in the South African Gospel Industry, starting as founding members of the Family Factory, a group that changed the landscape of Gospel Music in this Country. They were also very instrumental in the formation of Joyous Celebration (a group where their sister Gift was also a member).
Later, they co-founded the Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir where Nkululeko & Gift were involved in the Artistic Direction of the Choir from inception; both as songwriters and musicians on the album. Nkululeko was also the Musical Director on the first tour of the Soweto Gospel Choir.
In 2007, Vicky and Nkululeko founded the Soweto Spiritual Singers, and in 2009 they started touring across Europe. Their big break came in 2010 when they collaborated and co-wrote ‘Sign of a Victory’ with R. Kelly, which they performed live to billions across the globe at the official opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Coming from humble beginnings with no support, this duo has stood the test of time, through resilience, determination and hard work, they have unilaterally created world acclaimed and internationally recognized and touring brands, like Soweto Spiritual Singers, Soweto Afro- Pop Opera and African Dream “the Musical.
