Martin Gill’s musical strengths, in a similar style to that of Dermot Kennedy, LANY and many other modern pop artists, lie in its honesty and relatability. His unique voice captures the emotion of every moment and feeling, while his live-looping keeps you dancing through catchy pop choruses.
During a summer of notable performances that included sharing a stage with Calum Scott (UK), Ziggy Alberts (AUS), and Ronan Keating (UK), Martin’s lead single ‘Say’ off his upcoming EP captured the hearts of many audiences and is now available to stream on all digital platforms through one of SA’s top independent music labels, Tic Tic Bang.
“This song is about the moment at the start of any new relationship where both people want to start something but are hyper-aware of pushing too hard too soon. Not wanting to intrude, but not wanting to give up what could be. I think it’s a feeling everyone can relate to. You are secretly excited but tentative in case you mess things up,” explains Martin.
The single leans more to his indie-pop sound, combining synths and a driving beat to create an earworm chorus while maintaining his raw, honest lyrics that resonate with any millennial trying to figure romantic relationships out. ‘Say’ was produced by Ewald Jansen Van Rensburg, known for his work with some of South Africa’s biggest pop names including Monark, Jesse Clegg, and Majozi.
“Coming from being a bedroom pop artist, working with Ewald has been an incredible experience,” says Martin. “Putting his experience and my freshness together, we’ve created really special and meaningful music, which we are so excited to share with the fans. This will set the tone for an exciting new era of my music.”
