MARENE- Partners In Crime

Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton

Flash rockers, Marene are back with an amazing new track. namely ‘Partners In Crime’. From the word go, this track is an in your face packed punch to the face and it feels so good.  It has been a year since we have had new music from the band but if their old stuff is anything to go by then, this release is set to be just as much as a success, and I can really vouch for the band that they have just released something special

The song starts off with a great dirty gritty guitar riff that is joined by the rest of the band instruments of drums and bass and even keyboards, accompanied by the awesome vocals of Tyler Duggen. Speaking of Tyler, he is also the producer on the track and I always feel I need to give a bit of a tip of the hat to someone who can be in a band and play so well but then also produce the track and do it with such ease. All of the recording is such top notch.
‘Partners In Crime’ seems to have that 80’s rock feel to it but revitalized with modern day music and what you left with is a great mixture of old school and new age rock that just works.

Tyler Duggan (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar & Producer) shares that “This is a special song to me, when I wrote the basic outline for the song back in 2018, it was something that I knew would push the band’s sound forward. We’ve always strived to be the band that gets the crowd dancing, and I think the perfect blend of rock and synth pop in this song does that. It’s a testament to our ‘sound’ as we’ve always taken inspiration from our heroes but have also chosen to go where they never did, and not just be a carbon copy and reinvent the wheel, but rather put our own spin on it. Although our influences will always be a apart of who we are, it’s refreshing for me to listen to our songs and hear just how far we’ve come in developing a sound of our own. We hope everyone is going to enjoy ‘Partners in Crime’ as much as I enjoyed creating it. It’s a song that means a lot to us, and we hope it inspires you to take risks and cherish the moments you have with the people around you.”

Ozzey Padayachee (Bass & Vocals) adds that“As the bassist on ‘Partners in Crime,’ I can say that recording this song was an exhilarating experience. The energy in the studio was contagious, and we all knew we were onto something special. The driving chorus and catchy lyrics had us all hooked from the start. I love the way this song sounds – it’s edgy and fun, with a hint of danger. Playing on ‘Partners in Crime’ was a thrill, and I can’t wait for fans to hear it. This song is all about letting loose and having fun, and I think listeners are going to love it just as much as we do.”

Skye Nagel (Drums) concludes that “Recording ‘Partners In Crime’ was a great experience. It took me two full days in the studio to get my drumming just right, but Alan, the recording engineer, really helped make everything sound amazing on the track. It was a super tiring process for all of us, but totally worth it. The energy in the song is insane, and my favorite thing about the song isthat it reminds me so much of how it sounds when we play it live.  The whole production of the track is just chefs’ kiss, with each instrument just blending in perfectly. I’ve always wanted to record drums in a studio so finally having the chance to do so was an experience that I’ll never forget!”

Everything about this track screams awesome and I can defiantly say, it might have been a year since we have heard from the band but the band are defiantly back and they are back with a vengeance.

I can picture myself listening to this track while driving in my car on my way to a show, I really do hope that show is a MARENE show because just like this awesome track, I do hear they put on a great show so if you ever get the opportunity to see them play live, drop everything and just go, you wont be disappointed.

There seems to be this come back of 80s hair metal rock and I am for one cannot be more excited as there is a new generation that bringing back old school and making it popular and fun again

Everything about this track is awesome from the vocals to lyrics to the music and I cant find much to fault except I hope MARENE don’t make us wait a year again to release new music and I for one cannot wait for the new album expected to drop soon

I would like to congratulate everyone who worked on the album, you can all be proud of this release and I must say the future looks bright

Lyrics

She pulled the handbrake

I said, whoa baby wow

You’ve got me revved up

And there’s no stopping now

You need a service,

Baby I’m your guy

I’ll check your oil

Get you ready for the driver’s seat

I’m runnin’

You’re stunnin’

I’m buyin’

And you’re selling

I’m ready

You’re steady

On ya’ marks

Get set and go

So sneak away,

Guided by the moonlight

Leave him for your sake

The night is young so let’s ride

Like thieves in the night

We’re Partners in Crime

So sneak away,

Tonight

You’re mine

She indicated

She dropped her dress

I raised my flag

She did the rest

Baby Baby, you can’t stop the fun

You gotta’ take me

Till I’m done,

Ya’ see

I’m runnin’

You’re stunnin’

I’m buyin’

And you’re selling

I’m ready

You’re steady

On ya’ marks

Get set and go

So sneak away,

Guided by the moonlight

Leave him for your sake

The night is young so let’s ride

Like thieves in the night

We’re Partners in Crime

So sneak away,

Tonight

You’re mine

I’m runnin’

You’re stunnin’

I’m buyin’

And you’re selling

I’m ready

You’re steady

On ya’ marks

Get set and go

So sneak away

Guided by the moonlight

Leave him for your sake

The night is young so let’s ride

Like thieves in the night

We’re Partners in Crime

So sneak away,

And tonight

You’re mine
