Intro

Justin VR is back with his new single ‘She Said…’, an upbeat Country Alt Rock track in tribute to those who push us to deliver our best!

The Cape-Town-based Singer-Songwriter shares that “Although I’ve been involved in events and entertainment for so long, there is a big part of me that remains an introvert. ‘She Said…’ tells the story of a woman that always strives and pushes to get the best out of you … to get you to come out of your shell so to speak. I’m sure everyone’s had that one person in their life, whether it be their spouse or partner or friend, that brings much-needed spontaneity. The vibe for the song was always going to be feel-good and guitar-driven, something that can get everyone to sing along and smile at the same time. As the lyric says, ‘Shake the blues, kick off your shoes, right now!”

Interview

Hi Justin VR, Welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine, can you tell us where you are from, where you grew up, and where you live now?

Thanks for having me. I’m born and bred In Cape Town. Never left, probably never will lol.

How would you describe your sound and genre?

A mix of alternative, country, and rock

Who is some of the bands you grew up listening to and even listen to today that have
influenced your music?

The Beatles, Crowded House, U2

Are you a solo musician or do you have a band that you jam with, can you explain how you play live and in the studio in terms of playing other instruments?

Currently a solo artist but that will change later this year with a touring Justin VR band at venues!

Okay, let’s talk about the new single; ‘She Said’,  can you tell us what the song is about?

In a nutshell, it’s about a woman trying to get you out of your shell and just to be more spontaneous.

Where was it recorded and who worked on it?

All my music is recorded at Malcolm Ormond’s studio here in Cape Town. He does the production and mixing too.

What was the recording process like?

Surprisingly quick and easy to be honest lol. It’s always fun creating new music and Malcolm and I have been working closely together now for a few years so more often than not our thought process and ideas just gel. Once you have the melody the rest eventually falls into place.

Will you be releasing an album or is it just singles at the moment?

For now singles. There simply is no time in today’s fast-paced lifestyle to even think of a full album. Singles have more impact anyway. The habits of listeners have changed in my opinion. Everything is digital so adding a single to a playlist is the way to go. Gone are the days of listening to albums on repeat via CDs or vinyl.

If you were to be endorsed by an instrument company what would be your dream endorsement?

Gibson. However, I’m a pro audio guy at heart so Yamaha, RCF, and Shure would be amazing! Hint hint

Do you have any upcoming shows?

The Keith Urban / Shania Twain tribute band I’m also involved in has a few shows lined up in the next 2 months. The confirmed dates are 28 July at Drama Factory in Strand with more to follow so watch this space.
