The Cranberry Merchants- Walkabout
Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton
On the 21st of July, The Cranberry Merchants released their long-anticipated music video of their track called ‘Walkabout’.
Riding on the Coketails as a sequel to their other music video for the track Disturbing The Peace, Steve and Dianne Moore decided to make a sequel or part 2 with Lego pieces for their latest music video.
If you haven’t watched the Disturning The Peace Video yet I suggest you do watch it, but to give you a quick update and introduction to the video. the premises and storyline is set around the main character who happens to be Cowboy Joe from CBJ Radio, Joe lives a few doors down from the band and gets disturbed by the ongoing parting and loud music of The Cranberry Merchants. The video then goes on to show Joe being disturbed by the peace and having to call the cops to get the band to turn their music down. Quite a good well-made video and definitely worth a watch
Fast forward 3 years later. the band has just released a new track called Walkabout where the video for the track continues the story from Disturbing The Peace and once again Cow Boy Joe is the main character. In this story also made up of Lego pieces, Joe decides to go on holiday to Australia and have a few quiet days and a Walkabout on his own in the bush. It just so happens that The Cranberry Merchants are also playing a live show in Australia not far from where Joe is and you can only imagine what happens and what all goes wrong with Joe as he encounters The Cranberry Merchants
I do urge you to watch both music videos to not only be able to follow the story better but also to see how well done the video is, and this is what I want to talk about next.
If you think the video for Disturbing The Peace was great then you going to be blown away by the latest Lego addition for ‘Walkabout’. The band seemed to have gone up a notch in terms of the presentation, thought put into the video as well as clever storylines and scenes. Making the video could not have been easy and must have taken a lot of time and patience with building each set and using the different programs and technology to run each scene in the sequence it needs to go, but one thing I was very pleasantly surprised how much thought they put into the storyline of the video, I mean I knew it was going to be, made out of lego and you think it is just a music video for one of the band’s songs but the video can also pass as a short movie or film.
Once you watch the video you will notice that some people have lent their voices for different parts of the video, the following people deserve credit for their part of the video. Tessa and Thomas Libreri (Destiny Band Oz)- the couple walking by the concession & merch tables in the intro. Christine Stork- As herself, announcing us on stage in the intro. Jeremy Stork- Voice of the judge heard during the credits. Kayla Harte (daughter of singer Robbie Harte)- Voice saying, “Yeah! Cranberry Merchants!” when the crowd is cheering in the intro. Even Steve Moore who is actually part of the band was an actual Cranberry Merchant- The literal cranberry merchant who is pushing the little cart of cranberries by the merch table in the intro

I also feel sorry for the main character Cow Boy Joe and all he has to endure from Those Damn Crannber Merchants, even getting arrested, attending court, and doing community service, and yes all of the above scenes can be seen in the video which is all very well done and adds to the storyline
I really admire all the work that has gone into this video, it seems like the band thought of everything from the stage lighting to different facial expressions to even adding sponsors at the front of the stage where the band is performing. It really makes you think that you have somehow gone into a different Lego dimension and you are really attending The Cranberry Merchants show
One thing I would like to tell the viewers of the video is please watch the whole video from start to finish as the story does continue even after the credits are shown at the end of the song, giving you that little bit extra of a storyline
I would like to congratulate Diane, Steve, and everyone who lent their voiceovers or experiences for the video, the end product is amazing and I am so proud of everyone, it truly is a masterpiece of a video that any animated filmmaker would be impressed by.
