I have been a fan of KAT’s music for quite some time now and have always followed her work, in fact, I have written reviews on her past work for Fanbase Music Magazine which can be seen HERE. But I must say, her new single, ‘In The Sun’ has got to be some of her best work yet, the songwriting, the emotion, the music, and even the video that accompanies the track are top-notch, and Kat and her team have definitely outdone themselves this time around
Once again Kat’s secret weapon, Mark Haze appears on the track, Mark has been a big part of Kat’s sound of late not only playing on her tracks but also producing them, and ‘In The Sun’ is no exception, and Mark’s work can definitely be heard all over the track as seen on the video below.

I guess having Mark Haze work on your music is a good secret weapon to have because of his amazing years of experience and talent not only as a musician but also as a producer, now combining that with the talent, beauty, and awesomeness  of KAT, I almost feel sorry for the world, because this track is defiantly going to take the world by storm and rock them off their feet
Hot off the heels of her last track Tokyo which had more of an EDM dance feel to it, Kat has gone back to her rock alternative roots with this track which just shows the talent this girl has, because she seems to jump around with genres so seamlessly
Having said that the EDM influence can be heard ever so slightly which lends to the fact you can not only rock out to it but can also dance to it and ‘In The Sun’ can be played and enjoyed for whatever occasion.

Upon first listen of the track, In The Sun is almost a ballad but something you can rock out to, it has the emotion and lyrics of a ballad but also the music and guitar solo that wants you to break stuff and rock out, and once again showing the awesome talent of Kat being able to write music like this. Watching the music video of the track I am blown away by the look of Kat,  her red hair swaying from side to side as she rocks out, and Mark Haze the band rocking out in the background, I am conflicted to say, does South Africa have its own Avril Lavigne, the only difference is ours is better in my opinion. I am conflicted about saying Kat looks and sounds like Avirl because one thing I have noticed bout Kat is you can’t put her in a box and she is definitely setting trends and taking names as she does it and ‘In The Sun’ is evidence to that
I can picture myself listening to this track while hosting a braai/bbq or while driving in my car both being on volume 100 because like all of Kat’s other music, is best enjoyed at top Volume
I would like to congratulate Kat on her best single yet and I really look forward to anything she releases because I just know it’s going to be amazing and this tack In the Sun is no exception

Kat shares that “This song truly reflects my original music taste and influences. The story of the song came to me in a dream, it’s essential to sacrifice everything you have to save the person that you love. Even if that means your life. I tried to create a sense of urgency begging the person to save themselves first. I love the guitar parts in this song but mixed with the electronic drums I think it really reflects me and what I do well. This is one of the most fun songs to perform live as it requires a tonne of emotion and performance. It’s a real release pouring out all your emotions on stage, and that’s what I get to experience when I perform this song.”

Lyrics

Kick the ground

Put out the lights

You won’t make it home tonight

Say a prayer

And don’t cry

You’re fighting for your life

I’m not asking you try

I’m not asking you to die

I’m telling you to trust

And I’m telling you run

And I’ll meet you in the sun

I’ll meet you in the sun

Keep going and don’t stop

He’ll lose what he’s got

Keep dreaming of the day

When we’re free

I’m not asking you try

I’m not asking you to die

I’m telling you to trust

And I’m telling you run

And I’ll meet you in the sun

I’ll meet you in the sun

As long as you’re free

As long as you’re strong

As long as you’re there I can go on

As long as you’re tough

As long as you love

I’ll meet you in the sun

Run

I’ll meet you in the sun

I’m not asking you to try

The Sun

I’m not asking you to die

I’ll meet you in the sun

I’m telling you to trust

And I’m telling run

I’ll meet you in the sun

As long as you’re free as long as your strong

I’ll meet you in the sun
