The ‘Future of Hope Dance Competition’ aligns with the theme for this year’s switch-on event.

To enter, Cape Town-based dancers, of any age, in groups of 2 – 10 members, need to upload a choreographed dance video of no more than two minutes to their own Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok pages and tag @CTFestiveLights

It is essential that the hashtag #CTFestiveLightsDance is used in the posts so that judges can track the entries.

Entries close at 12:00 on 15 November 2023 and the top ten contenders will be notified soon after.

Supporting and celebrating local artists, dance entries are expected to be choreographed to the sounds of proudly South African music.

All dance styles are welcomed – amapiano, hip-hop, breakdance, gwara-gwara or any other recognized dance form. Imagination is encouraged!

The top ten contenders will battle it out at a public dance-off to be held on 19 November at the V&A Waterfront from 13:30.

Up for grabs for the top three is not only the honor of performing to festivalgoers, but the overall winning group will receive R10 000 to share, and the runner-ups will split a respective R5 000 and R2 000.

Cape Town is a city of immense talent and when it comes to putting our best foot forward, we have some of the best dancers in the country, so I’m keen to encourage Capetonians to get involved and then watch the winners on stage at the big event. Our annual Festive Lights Switch-On is a uniquely Cape Town event, and it makes absolute sense to have some of our best local dancing talent there on the day, to have a part in the entertainment. I look forward to seeing what the entrants have to offer,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

The public is reminded to save the date and get to the Grand Parade for the show of the year, which starts at 16:00 and finishes at 22:00 on 26 November.

The artist lineup will be announced soon.
