Sarah Jade- I Don’t Like You

Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton

Talented musician Sarah Jade is back with her highly anticipated new single I Don’t Like You, Hot off the heels of her previous single My Favourite Time, our favorite Blue Head girl is back with her amazing new single. and what an amazing new single it is.

Upon first listening to the track, the track has that country twang sound in Sarah’s voice, but something more of the pop side, like Taylor Swift instead of someone like Dolly Parton kind of country sound, thus making her new track eligible for any playlist both for the average fan at home or on radio stations all around the world, the odd rock fan might even enjoy Sarah’s latest offering.

The song starts with some nice clean electric guitar, and I think to myself we are off to a great start as the intro is very groovy and catchy. The drums then start and then we’re off, Sarah’s great voice is taking over the song with her unmistakable signature voice, to compare Sarah to past work is very hard because we only have one previous solo track to go on and even though she also makes up one-half of the vocals of the band Fourth Son South, and you might have seen her play live, this is all we have to go on but her voice is is so distinctive and beautiful, I feel I can already say things like the signature sound of her voice, she just has that ability or talent that whenever you hear her, you know it is Sarah Jade and I feel that is something remarkable to be able to achieve, especially at such an early point of her career, it is amazing to think Sarah is only 20 years old and hasn’t been in the industry that long, I mean this is just her 2nd solo single and she already has a Sarah Jade sound and signature voice.

The song itself is about not liking someone, even though there are times you think you do like that person, the person then always shows themself and true colors and you realize why you don’t like that person.

What I have found amazing these last few months is the build-up to this song, it seems every time I was scrolling on my social media, there was some sort of advertisement or clever funny marketing done around the words I don’t like you, from getting big celebrities such as Jack Parow to wear sunglasses with the words I Don’t Like you written on frames of the glasses to loads of posts all around Facebook and Instagram, the marketing behind this has not only been off the charts but Sarah and her team has managed to make it all look fun, which in itself deserves congratulations.

One thing I need to mention and say a huge well done is the music on the track, each instrument is played to perfection and the song itself is made to feel like it is a catchy number and will get people dancing or moving around. The production, recording, mixing, and engineering are done just as well and can compete with the best recordings around the world, such top-notch work with all who worked on the track and I am told Yakean Van Vuuren,  Shinesh Ramballi ( Lefokolodi and Drumfish fame) and Peter Toussaint (Fourth Son South Fame) had all had a hand on working on this track, guys your efforts don’t go unnoticed.
I Don’t Like You, can be added to any playlist, whether you are at a party or having a few people around for a braai, if you’re just driving in your car, or if you’re just looking for the perfect song to get your feelings in order about someone that you used to like but come to realise you just don’t like that person anymore, we all need one of those songs right?
When asked about what the song is about Sarah Jade comments: “I wrote this song about the things and people that make me feel small, and tend to bring me down. With a lot of teen angst, magical vocal harmonies, and sick drum beats, this is my way of reclaiming those moments that made me feel so low, and turning them into something I can be proud of.”
I would like to congratulate Sarah Jade and everyone who worked on the track for an amazing 2nd single, I sure hope there is a new album coming out soon because everyone needs a lot of Sarah Jade music in their life. Ladies and gentlemen, I think South Africa might just have its own Taylor Swift in our horizons, but in my opinion, our one is better, watch out for Sarah Jade, she is going places

Lyrics

Love how I conveniently forget how much I hate you
Made me believe that you’re the best thing that happened to me
Now I’ll sit here all alone, waiting for my phone to ring
Yeah, I’ll sit here all alone, yeah, all I can do is think

I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you

Love how I conveniently forget how much I despise you
Bring me down so low, you’re the only thing that I can look up to
Now I’ll sit here all alone, waiting for my phone to ring
Now I’ll sit here all alone, yeah, all I can do is think

I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you

Isn’t it tragic to hate someone you used to love
Rose-colored glasses only last so long before they rust
The lessons I’ve learned, now I don’t need you
The lessons I’ve learned, I’m so much better off without you

Cause I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
I don’t like you, I don’t like you
