Interviewed by Duzzy Clayton
Intro
Joy Club Cassidy Cassidy is a band I first saw live playing at a tribute concert as Green Day, since then I have been a huge fan of the band, who turns out not only can play Green Day tracks very well, but they also write awesome music including a track written with Legendary Francois Van Coke. The band recently released a Chrismas track for the holidays, we talk about that track and as well as upcoming plans for 2024, I even get the dirt for the band’s Guilty Pleasures

Interview
Hi, guys welcome back to Fanbase Music Magazine, can you start by reminding us who is in the band and what each band member does?
Thank you so much for having us again, happy to be back.
We have Brandon Botha on Bass and Backing vocals
Duncan Potgieter on Drums
Kyle Botha – Lead Guitar and Backing vocals
Jordan Redcage – Lead vocals and Rhythm Guitar
How would you describe your sound?
We are a good balance between punk and rock that will make you feel like you are listening to your favorite nostalgic tunes, but also something new that you have never heard before.
You have just bout a Christmas track this year, I quite like the subject matter of the track and it is not your normal Christmas tune, in your own words can you explain what the song is about?
The song is about how some folks use social media to gain popularity through false philanthropy in an attempt to seem genuinely humanitarian.
Where was the song recorded and who worked on the track?
The song was recorded in 3 places. Instruments in Bloemfontein, Vocals at Stephan Kosterman’s apartment (Frontman, Guitarist, and Lead singer of Stones and Gold), and the last final vocal touches at Jordan’s place. We had it mixed and mastered through Stevie (a well-known engineer and friend)
What was the process like for this recording?
For this particular recording, the process was quite quick and fun because it was a song intended to just be a single for Christmas. So all of the pressure that surrounds a usual track was non-existent.
It seems like 2024 is going to be a big busy year for the band, can you tell us what is in the pipeline, any new music, or albums?
We have a lot of new music on the way. Some exciting covers and new ideas and some collaborations very soon.
Do you have any upcoming live gigs?
We have some special announcements we are going to be making soon, so just keep watching out on socials.
You got to collaborate with Francois Van Coke for your last single Six Feet and Deep, who else would be your dream collaboration?
If we are talking about South African artists, it will have to be Shadow Club, Fuzigish, and The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra.
Who are some of the band members’ guilty pleasure bands or artists to listen to that we would not have guessed?
There are tons!
Brandon is a huge Abba fan
Kyle loves John Mayer
Duncan’s favorite track is – “Sixteen Tons” from Tennessee Ernie Ford
Jordan mostly listens to Big Band Classics and Swing
Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers?
As always, Joy Club wishes everyone to be kind to one another and support each other as much as they can. See you at a show soon!
