Interview
Hi Dara, and welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine, can you start by telling the readers where you are from and what got you into music?
Hey Fanbase Music Mag! I’m from Somerset West, South Africa. I got into music at a very young age of 4 through my father. He was a musician back in the day and wanted to allow me to feel the magical connection that music brings.
You are an awesome singer, do you play any instruments and if so what is your favorite brand of said intrument/s?
Thank you so much! I play piano, guitar, and ukulele. The piano is my favorite and main instrument. I love Steinway & Sons pianos as well as Schimmel pianos. They are incredibly good quality and always have a beautiful tone when playing them.
How would you describe your sound or genre?
The sound of my music is a fusion of genres. It blends jazz/pop/indie & singer-songwriter elements. Lyrics are very important to me as they always convey a message and story. My music is always acoustic, but I am looking to experiment with some electronic sounds in the future.
What music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up listening to jazz, classical music & Arabic music. I also heard radio pop hits of the ’90s & 2000s.
Okay, let’s talk about your previous single, Be Here Now, can you tell us what the song is about?
My previous single is about being present at the moment and enjoying the small beauties life presents in each moment. It’s about slowing down and connecting to reality around you in a more present way.
You are about to release a new music video for the track Best Part, originally done by Daniel Caesar, first of all, why did you want to cover this track?
I’m very excited about my new music video release coming up! I wanted to cover this song as it’s got a beautiful piano arrangement and incredibly powerful lyrics. It’s also my dad’s favourite song currently so I wanted to do this for him to be able to watch and enjoy.
Where was the music video recorded and what was the thought process about the scenes of the video?
The music video was recorded in Boston, USA at The Record Co. Studio. It was done in their main studio room A, on a beautiful grand piano. We wanted to get different angles for the scenes to showcase the hands playing the piano and the facial expressions & interpretations from the front during singing. The thought process was to keep it real, authentic, and organic.
When will the new music video and track be released?
The track will be released at 5 pm on Sunday the 7th January 2024!
Do you have any upcoming exciting gigs for 2024?
2024 is an exciting and busy year for gigs and shows. I will be in New York & the Caribbean for 3 months performing on Carnival Venezia from January 23rd – April 26th. Then I will be touring Miami and the West Indies & southern Caribbean from May 11th – September 22nd. After that, I will be performing shows I’m Las Vegas for 2 months!
Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers?
Thank you for having me on this interview & I’m very excited for 2024 as I will be releasing many videos and new songs regularly so keep your eyes out for future releases after this one as well!
