Interview
What inspires you about South Africa, and how does this inspire your music?
We are constantly inspired by South Africa’s diversity, from the multitude of natural wonders to the vast number of cultural groups and languages. Being able to travel around the country with our music allows us to experience and appreciate this diversity, and this therefore plays a huge role in our songwriting.
What do you love about South African music?
Having so many cultures and languages in the country makes our music scene truly unique as artists are constantly experimenting with different styles of African and contemporary music.
Which SA musicians/ bands have influenced you the most?
Our biggest local influences have been traditional music greats such as Phuzushukela, Mgqashiyo Ndlovu, Juluka, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
What are your hopes for the country in support of the ongoing journey to a better South Africa?
As part of ‘on track to better’, we feel that unity continues to be of utmost importance. We as a country must never forget that we are stronger together, and just like the diverse and eclectic music being produced in South Africa, we need to embrace, appreciate and make an effort to understand one another and the unique diversity we have as a nation.
