Billy O (feat p.d. wohl)- From The Hit Parade

Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton

A few years ago, I was sent a band called The Ormidales by my good friend and PR lady, Catherine. I instantly fell in love with the band, and I have been following them and playing them since.
So I was pretty excited when Billy Oliver from the band said he was working on a new project under the name Billy O. I did wonder if it would be of the same quality as his past work, and I was not disappointed at all. Billy O’s debut track is a lively but beautiful number that brings a bit of fresh air to the listener’s ear.
At first, listening to the track, I am pulled in by the drum beat starting the show, then a nice little keyboard melody and bass and guitar intro, and I think to myself, a great start to the track, and I am already tapping along with the beat.
Billy O’s starts to sing, and I am taken aback with a comforting feeling as I listen to his lyrics and voice. It is amazing how music can do that and make you feel a certain way and be a bit emotional.
When I listen to this track, I get a sense of reminiscing about the good old days, and when I interviewed Billy O for Fanbase Music Magazine (Read HERE), he had this to say about the track: “It’s all about my first band as a 15-year-old. We covered the songs from the charts, UK and American, and would play them with all our hearts, and we thought we had it made.”
Which is actually kind of cool. That is the feeling I was also getting when hearing the song, and I looked back on my 15-year-old self, who was also in a band, and thought we rocked and had it made. This track brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia.
The whole song is very good, from the vocals to the music and instruments, and all who worked on the track can be proud of a nice, cool song that many will enjoy.
Speaking of who else worked on the track, it was recorded at wohl of sound in Vancouver, and p.d. wohl worked on the track as well as Jamie Sitar at Outtatown Sound who mastered the track, I think we can all agree they did a great job and gave the track that extra oomph it needed.
I can picture myself listening to this track when I just want to think about the good old days. Life goes by so fast, and sometimes it is nice to just sit back and think about where it all started, what got you into music, what your first band and band members were, and who you were dating at that time. If you are lucky enough to have enjoyed those times, then you can go on a nice trip through memory lane, and I think listening to this track will help make that journey a more pleasurable one.
I would like to congratulate Billy O and his team on this new track. I look forward to seeing what comes next out of this project. If it’s anything like this debut track, then we are all in for a treat.

Lyrics

Randy played guitar
Billy played bass
Mac he smashed his drums
All over the place
We really thought we had it made
Those days I’d never trade

We played those songs from the Hit Parade
We really thought we had it made
The girls sang all along

Annie had a car
Never went too far
Always home by ten
Then one day
She drove away
Didn’t have a word to say

We played those songs from the Hit Parade
We really thought we had it made
The girls sang all along
We really thought we had it made
The girls knew all the songs

Then we got our first big chance
Got to play our High School dance
We were up there on the stage
And Lana wore her brand new dress
Oh Danny,looked his best

We played those songs from the Hit Parade
We really thought we had it made
The girls sang all along
