Interview

Hi David, Welcome back to Fanbase Music Magazine. I don’t think there are many readers who don’t know yet, but just in case, please tell us where you are from and how long you have been doing music.
My name is David Torrance, a songwriter and composer from a village 15 miles outside of Glasgow, Scotland, called Strathaven. I have been involved with music since the age of 7, when my father first sent me to piano lessons.
The last time we spoke, you were releasing ‘Loved You So Much. How did you feel the track did?
‘Loved You So Much’ was a track that I had written quite a few years ago. It is a bittersweet love song, but radio stations worldwide really took to it, and I was really pleased at the airplay and exposure this track achieved.
You have just bought a new single called The Cold Shoulder; can you tell us what that song is about?
‘The Cold Shoulder’ was a song about people in your life, male or female, that really annoy you or may be jealous of you and try to bring negativity into your life. So what you do with these types of people is give them ‘The Cold Shoulder’.
Who else worked on the track, and where was it recorded?
The track was initially recorded in my home studio in Strathaven, where we laid down rhythm guitar, two lead guitars, and a bass guitar. Then we sent the stems to Ed Macarthur in Stealth Recording Studio in Glasgow, where I laid down the vocals. The musicians that played on this track, along with myself, were Stuart Colquhoun, Graham Thomas, and Laughlin Allan.
It is believed that releasing “The Cold Shoulder” wasn’t actually in your frame of mind, but you decided to release it now. What made you release the track now?
I call this track ‘the one to take track’ as I wrote it about 3 months ago, and it took all of 15 minutes. All the guitars and bass were all done in one take, as were the vocals, which is very unusual, but when we had finished the full production, everyone thought it sounded great. So I decided to release it on May 10th.
Wil, will you be releasing a music video for this track? If so, what can you tell us about it?
Yes, we always release a music video for our tracks 10–20 days after the release of the track, so as we speak, Allan at RhetoricSound and myself are working on this at the moment. Watch this space.
What can you tell us is in the future, any more singles or albums on the horizon?
The future is bright and positive, for both myself, Allan, and THPSongs. I will be releasing a new track called ‘Now That You’ve Gone’ around September/October. As yet, we don’t have a Christmas song to release this year, but in 2025 we will be releasing new tracks with various artists.

Your son, who does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work for your music has his own business, can you explain what that is and how to get hold of him?

Allan runs a music promotion business called RhetoricSound, you can find him at RhetoricSound.com – any band or artist that needs help, from website creation, graphics, videos, or radio play, can visit RhetoricSound.com

If you could Colab with any musician, who would it be?
As I get older, I think I would like to start collaborating with some of the younger artists, like Ed Sheeran, and Lewis Capaldi, people like that.

Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers?
Yes, our last message to your readers would be what we have said for a long time now at THPSongs, which is ONWARDS AND UPWARDS.
