Interview
Hi there, welcome to Fanbase Music Magazine, can we start by talking about the band’s name, how did you come up with the name Kings County?
Duzzy, thanks for inviting the band to Fanbase Music Magazine. Since the band originated on Long Island, NY. we wanted to keep the New York theme in the band name. Kings County is actually the county of Brooklyn, NY.
Who is in the band and what does each band member do?
Myself,(Rob Dexter) sings and plays bass. Steve Bell is our guitarist and singer. Joe Lopez is our drummer and Bill Kania is our second guitarist.
Where is the band from and what is the music scene like from there?
As I mentioned before, the band started in New York and relocated in 2000. The scene in New York really started to get diluted with so many bands, that moving to Orlando, FL was perfect timing for us. Orlando’s music scene has really exploded over the years. Florida is a big state, with plenty of top-notch venues throughout. Also, the great weather really contributes to a lot of outdoor venues that add tremendously to the scene here.
How would you describe your band’s sound and genre?
Kings County formed during the 90’s and our original sound emulated a lot of the great hard rock bands that made their mark such as Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains & Soundgarden. Our original music has a mix of that 90’s guitar-driven sound but with an added modern twist. Even some of our songs have an industrial feel to them.
who are some of the band’s influences?
Kings County is definitely influenced by many of the hard-hitting 90’s rock bands. Anything with thick driving guitars and aggressive vocals we are fans of.
Your latest single namely, Blue Monday originally by New Order, what made you want to cover this track and what does the song mean to the band?
.We were always fans of New Order and the original Blue Monday track. We always noticed that a lot of the great 80’s New Wave bands such as Depeche Mode, The Cure, and New Order converted real well to hard rock. It was like it was meant to be. We’ve been playing “Blue Monday” since the 90s and knew it would be a great choice to remake.
There is also a cool music video for the track, what can you tell us about the track?
Nowadays people listen with eyes so making a top-notch video was key. We filmed the video in Miami, FL with video director Jon Vulpine. Jon directed our last 3 videos and is a monster director in the music industry. He’s worked with Three Days Grace, Skillet & Seether.
Where was the song recorded and who worked and produced the song?
” Blue Monday” was recorded in Canton, MI with our producer Chuck Alkazian at Pearl Sound Studios.
What was the recording process like?
The drums were recorded in MI, but the guitars, vocals & bass were recorded at our own home studios and produced and mixed at Pearl Sound Studios. The Internet makes it easy to be in different locations and still put together a great recording.
Can you tell us of any other new music you have coming out?
2023 and the beginning of 2024 have been quite the year recording and making music videos and performing live has really consumed our time. We look forward to taking a short break and getting back into recording new music. Look for new music coming at the end of 2024.
When you play live, can you tell us how and what that experience is like?
Kings County is a live band ever since the beginning, our live shows were always, an important part of the band. Recording is great but interacting with a live audience it the best. Nothing better then how the band feeds off the crowd and how the crowd feeds off the energy of the band, nothing compares to it.
For some songs you have shared vocalist duties done by different band members, can you tell us how that works out and who decides who sings what?
We always wanted to go with our strengths and having another vocalist is an asset. The majority of the vocals are done by myself but some of our songs are covered by our guitarist, Steve Bell. It’s a great way to keep the sound diverse.
Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers?
Once again, thanks for having us in your magazine. Hopefully, your readers will embrace the sound of Kings County and along the way, we’ll pick up some new fans. There are a lot of great bands out there and plenty of anxious listeners looking for new music. The band looks forward to connecting with new fans along the way.
