Fismits- Halen

Reviewed by Duzzy Clayton

The Fismits are no strangers to the South African music industry, and over the years they have made a good name for themselves in the industry. I have become quite fond of them, so when I heard they were releasing new music, I was instantly excited, being the fanboy I am of the band.

Although ‘Halen’ is the latest track offering from the band, it is more of a cover, or, better put, a tribute to a singer who is no longer with us, and an original from the band Live Jimmy Presley, even though the original song was never officially released. Mark Biagio from Fismits always enjoyed this song when he once worked with Live Jimmy Presley on some recordings.

Marc ‘Presley’ Feltham from the band Live Jimmy Presley has sadly passed away since this song was written, and with the band’s blessing, Mark Bigaio and Fismits have now reworked the track and given it that Fismits sound we all come to love and have now released the track.

I mentioned that Fismit’s sound and the band’s music have that beautiful signature sound, and Halen has that sound. which is awesome because this is a tribute to a band of the 90s and a great musician, but putting the story aside, it is still a great offer from Fimits.

The song starts with some great guitar bass and drums that hit you in your eardrums right away. We are off to a great start as the song is rocking and has so much groove to it. Mark Biagio’s voice on the song is top-notch and on form. Considering the band hasn’t released anything in a few years, this is a great way to say they are rocking hard.

When I listen to this track and having seen this band play live, I cannot wait to hear this track being played live because I can instantly hear it doing well at a great venue and in front of a big audience.

The song has some cool guitar solos and licks, and just towards the end, you think you are at the normal pace of the song, but then the song kind of speeds up, which I thought was a great add-on to the single.

I can picture myself listening to this on any occasion, but one accusation comes to mind when this song could be played, and that is if you kind of miss the 90s, miss the bands and scenes from that time, Fismits managed to capture that moment, put an updated flare on the track, and make us feel a bunch of emotions of nostalgia to rocking all in a single track.

The recording of this is also top-notch. I know it is wrong to compare bands to overseas bands’ recordings because there shouldn’t be that line between countries, but thinking about where South African music was perhaps a decade ago to where it is now, it is amazing that South African bands and recordings are as great, if not better than most bands around the world, and Fisnits-Haqlen is testament to that, and I would like to congratulate all who worked on this single. I am proudly South African, and this song ticks all the right boxes.

I didn’t know Mark ‘Presley’ Feltham, but I am sure he is looking down from heaven, approves of what Fismits has done with this single, and is smiling down.

I would like to congratulate Fisnits on an amazing new track; hopefully, this will be the opening of the door to more new music being released by the band soon.

Clean Lyrics ‘Halen’ by The Fismits

(Lyrics by Marc Feltham)

Someone could save you

Someone could lie

Some could make you break you

Show you the sky

But I’m telling you baby

You can run but you can’t fly

You say you just bring meat

You say your alive

You could be a rabbit punch

Hardly alive

But I’m telling you baby

You can run but you can’t fly

I can tell you everything you wanna know

In the smell of the morning

In the glimpse of the light

You can sniffer my dog breath

If it keeps you alive

But I’m smelling you baby

You can run but you can’t ride

Real love true love say love

Real love real love true love

The two faced witch

I wasted my breath

Days without hitch

Peace to the deaf

I can tell you everything you wanna know
