Interview

‘Dance A Little More’ has a vibrant and feel-good vibe. What inspired you to write this song?

Dylan Tori: I was inspired to write an upbeat, country-feel love song that gets people moving on the dance floor.

Country music is known for its rich storytelling. What story are you telling through ‘Dance A Little More’?

Dylan Tori: It’s a story about a person who has lost hope until a moment or person creates a life-changing experience, bringing new light and love into their life. This feeling makes them want to celebrate for eternity.

You blend various genres in your music. How do you think this fusion impacts the country music scene today?

Dylan Tori: Modern country has a lot of rock elements. Adding blues, where Western music basically started, and now incorporating soul and pop, opens the genre up to various artists and styles.

The genre boundaries in music are increasingly fluid, with artists like Post Malone and Beyoncé effectively transitioning from pop to country music. How do you view this trend of genre-blending, and what impact do you think it has on the music industry and listeners’ reception of country music?

Dylan Tori: Country music is a big industry with many artists adding their own twist. Over the years, we’ve seen artists like Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Marcus King, Anderson East, and Chris Stapleton bring their unique styles to country music. I think this is great if you maintain the rich history of storytelling and avoid making it cheesy. It’s beneficial for the industry and listeners because we see many collaborations between country artists and those from other genres, such as Luke Combs & Ed Sheeran, capturing a wider audience.

Line dancing is a huge part of country culture. Do you have a favourite line dancing memory or a go-to line dance?

Dylan Tori: I’m not much of a dancer, but if my inner John Travolta shines, I think I could rip up the dance floor with a mean two-step or Dosey Doe, LOL.

Country-themed events often feature fun activities like mechanical bull riding. Have you ever had the chance to try it? If so, could you share your experience? And if not, is there a particular country-themed activity that you enjoy or find interesting?

Dylan Tori: I’ve given it a go several times, and man, do I suck! Three seconds is my personal best. The problem with the mechanical bull is that it’s a sport only found in bars. It doesn’t make it any easier, if you know what I mean.

Your music encourages listeners to have fun and be free. How important is it to you that your music makes people want to dance?

Dylan Tori: It’s more important that the audience resonates with the songs. When they attend the live shows, they should feel at one with the band, singing and dancing, living in the moment, and forgetting about life for a while.

How do you see modern technology, like AI, influencing the future of music production and songwriting? Have you experimented with any new tech in your latest work?

Dylan Tori: I don’t know too much about it and really hope the music industry stays authentic to its core. The coolest thing about music is the creative aspect. An instrument and a blank piece of paper creating something out of nothing is pure beauty.

Country music is traditionally seen as a very American genre, yet it has a global fan base. What has your experience been with international audiences?

Dylan Tori: When I perform in tourist destinations, I find that the audience feels very comfortable and gets a sense of “home” when listening to country music, especially American tourists.

What other genres or artists influence your music? Do you have any surprising influences outside of country music?

Dylan Tori: I have strong roots in blues, rock, and soul, having been brought up in a household where music played a big role in our daily lives. Being a 90s child and coming out of the grunge era, I guess it’s surprising that I love country music so much.

If you could collaborate with any artist from a different genre, who would it be and why?

Dylan Tori: Chris Stapleton, for sure. He’s the best male vocalist and songwriter in my opinion right now.

What’s your favourite part about performing live?

Dylan Tori: The joy that I bring to the audience by simply playing a guitar and singing.

With the rise of streaming platforms, how do you think the music industry has changed for emerging artists?

Dylan Tori: It has its pros and cons. The ability to reach a larger audience quicker is a pro, but the decline in revenue from album sales has had a big impact on artists’ income.

Finally, what can they expect from this track for fans who haven’t yet listened to ‘Dance A Little More’?

Dylan Tori: An upbeat, feel-good, boots-scooting boogie song that tells a positive story.

Dance A Little More’ is more than just a song; it’s an invitation to embrace the joy of music and movement. Dylan Tori continues pushing country music’s boundaries, bringing his fans fresh sounds and exciting performances. We can’t wait to see where his musical journey takes him next.
