Carletheia announced as opening act for PJ Morton in Cape Town
Off the back of new single release, “I’ll Always Be There”
Emerging South African talent joins Grammy Award-winning artist PJ Morton on stage for the Cape Town leg of his “Cape Town To Cairo Tour”
South African music fans are in for a special treat as Carletheia, an emerging artist with a powerful voice and captivating stage presence, has been announced as the opening act for PJ Morton’s upcoming show in Cape Town. The concert, scheduled for 6 September 2024, at the Concert Hall in the Baxter Theatre Centre, marks the start of Morton’s highly anticipated “Cape Town To Cairo Tour.”
Carletheia, whose soulful sound and dynamic performances have been steadily gaining recognition, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to share the stage with such an internationally acclaimed artist. “I am beyond ecstatic and truly blessed to have the opportunity to open up for PJ Morton,” says Carletheia. “It’s rare to get a chance to open for an international artist, let alone a multi-Grammy award-winning one. I don’t take this opportunity lightly.”
As she prepares to step into the spotlight, Carletheia is most excited about the connection with the audience and the energy that comes with performing live. “I’m looking forward to performing to an amazing crowd, and PJ’s fans never disappoint,” she shares, hinting at the vibrant atmosphere that will fill the Baxter Theatre Centre.
For her set, Carletheia promises an experience that will resonate deeply with the audience. “I hope to deliver an energetic and meaningful performance and make it a memorable experience,” she adds, ensuring that her performance will be one that lingers in the hearts of those who attend.
Shedding light on why Carletheia was selected as the opening act, Wade Jordan, the business manager for both PJ Morton and Carletheia reveals: “Most would assume because I manage both PJ Morton and Carletheia that she would automatically be a part of the show. Did that play a part? Sure. But PJ and I are very selective with the artists that take part in his shows,” Wade explains. “We first experienced Carletheia live at The Wave Theatre this past January, and she blew us away. Over the course of the past few months, I’ve gotten the opportunity to witness the amazing person she is, her work ethic, and her passion for building an impactful career that would make South Africans proud. That’s the major reason why Carletheia was asked to perform on September 6th at the Baxter Theatre.”
This announcement comes off the back of Carletheia’s newly released single, “I’ll Always Be There” written by PJ Morton and featuring the stunning vocals of Mpilwenhle (Top 3 Idols SA) and a voice that commands attention, Milly Milazi. “I’ll Always Be There” is currently enjoying radio airplay on stations across the country such as Good Hope FM, Gagasi FM, Power FM, Smile 90.4 FM, Rhodes Music Radio, and Bush Radio, just to highlight a few.
Women’s Month has been exceptional for Carletheia who had the opportunity to interview veteran anti-apartheid activist, Ms. Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, the last living member of the five women that led the 1956 Women’s march. Carletheia met her a couple of months ago when she performed at Sanctuary Mandela in Johannesburg and the two formed a rapport which led to a sit-down interview where Ms. Williams-De Bruyn discussed the courage it took to work on the march and everything in between then and now, which aired on Women’s Day on e.tv’s The Morning Show SA.
The airing of Carletheia’s interview with Ms. Sophia Williams-De Bruyn was preceded by a stellar performance by Carletheia at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Cape Town which has now resulted in a monthly residency with her next show at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! taking place on Saturday, 7 September 2024.
