Interview
Can you take us through the process of writing and recording ‘1 ToucH’? What inspired the lyrics, and how did the track come together in the studio?
X-Sirenn: I was in the studio when I first heard the beat. My producer and I had already planned to include Drill as a genre in my mixtape. As soon as I heard the beat, I started free-styling and writing based on the emotions I was feeling at that moment, which eventually resulted in ‘1 ToucH.’
What was your vision for the ‘1 ToucH’ video, and how did you bring that to life?
X-Sirenn: I had a clear vision of where I wanted to shoot the scenes for the video. Moneyman Nyce and I combined our ideas, and that collaboration resulted in what you see today.
Family and personal experiences seem to play a significant role in your music. How do these aspects of your life influence your artistry?
X-Sirenn: My family pushes me to do the unthinkable. As a man, I have to strive for my family, and they inspire me to keep going and push beyond my limits.
If you could create a custom sneaker that represents your music and style, what would it look like, and what unique features would it have?
X-Sirenn: I love sneakers, and if I could collaborate with any sneaker brand, I’d design a pair that’s white and black with a touch of gold. It would feature my logo, X-Sirenn, and standout tiger patterns to represent my unique style.
You’ve collaborated with artists like Gully Seth. How important is collaboration in your music, and what do you look for in a potential collaborator? Is it true there’s an upcoming collaboration planned with Emtee? What can you tell us about this?
X-Sirenn: Honestly, features are all about energy for me. I can’t work with someone if we don’t vibe well together. We have to be on the same wavelength for it to work. Regarding future features, yes, Emtee and I will be dropping a single soon this year as part of my mixtape.
The music industry can be challenging. What motivates you to keep pushing forward, and how do you stay focused on your goals?
X-Sirenn: I stay true to myself and the grind. Not everyone in the industry will accept you, but you can’t let that bring you down. Instead, use it as motivation to exceed expectations. This mindset keeps me focused and determined.
Imagine you’re putting together a dream hip-hop supergroup with any artists, living or dead. Who would be in your group, and what would the name of your first album be?
X-Sirenn: If it were possible, I’d form a supergroup with Nasty C, A-Reece, and Emtee. Our first album would be called The Big League.
South African hip-hop is known for its unique sound. How do you incorporate local elements into your music while also appealing to a global audience?
X-Sirenn: By staying rooted in the cultures we share in South Africa, I can create a sound that resonates locally while appealing to the global market, showcasing a unique South African flavour.
With legends like Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest, South African hip-hop has impeccable talent and international attention. What do you think sets South African hip-hop apart on the global stage?
X-Sirenn: Our culture, vernac lyrics, and distinct fashion style are what set South African hip-hop apart on the global stage.
As a young artist, what advice would you give to others looking to make their mark in the music industry?
X-Sirenn: Always be humble and keep your head down, even when things are going your way. Keep creating music and content, and look for opportunities to partner with other brands and campaigns.
Looking ahead, what are your long-term goals for your music career, and what can fans expect from you in the coming years?
X-Sirenn: Fans can expect a lot of new projects and music, with fresh transitions in my sound. In the long run, I aim for longevity in the industry, staying persistent in my music until I’m no longer here.
