Intro

Gina Ross is a musician I am so glad I have come across because she is one of the most talented ladies I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

After the success of her last single ‘Go Easy’, she is back with her latest single called Wanderin’ Girl.  Wanderin’ Girl is a deep track which speaks of a young beautiful girl who set out to a better life, but after a series of bad events, life did not turn ot how she wanted it to be. I would also like to enphersize the amazing vocal range Gina has on this track, I believe this is some of her best work and I am so excited and can’t wait for the rest of the world to hear it

I catch up with Gina Ross and discuss this great track

Hi Gina, welcome back to Fanbase Music Magazine, can you remind readers where you are from and how long have you been doing music.

I grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where I began singing from an early age. I was five years old when my Auntie Angeline would teach me the songs she would sing when she sang with the Big Show Bands of that time. This led me to sing for the local Sunday School on the streets of Belfast singing hymns and raising money for various charities. This year would mark fifty years I have been doing my music and still loving every minute of it.

Your last single, Go Easy, seemed to do quite well on radio and online, the message of the song seemed to resonate with a lot of people, how does it feel if something you wrote and sang touches so many other people’s lives?

It is the most amazingly humbling feeling when my audience and listeners are so moved by my music. It makes me feel very complete and to know I have achieved what I have always dreamt of achieving and that is touching people’s hearts and souls.

Let’s talk about the latest single, Wandering Girl, can you tell us what the song is about and what inspired you to write it?

It is a song drenched in truth about a most beautiful looking young woman who was very close to me. We had known each other all our childhoods. She was such a beauty, and I think she wanted more than what she had, so of to the big city and the bright lights she went. Unfortunately, those same lights began to dim and fade as so did she.

Who else worked on the track and what did they bring to the table?

This was a collaboration between Myself, Reuben Vincent and Martin Sutton. I had the song sat on my hard drive for more than ten years, initially it was written with myself and Reuben who composed the music. Then on being introduced to Martin Sutton who is the founder of The Songwriting Academy and who collaborated with me on my last single ‘Go Easy’ I knew I wanted his input and professional expertise on the song, being a multi-platinum award winning songwriter and record producer, I knew without a doubt he would do this song justice and that’s exactly what he did.

Where was it recorded and what was the recording process like?

It was recorded at Martins recording studio. Before the actual recording there was numerous Zoom meetings to rewrite some of the lyrics and put a different vibe from the original track. When in the studio we were joined by Martins partner Cat Aimi who delivered her amazing backing vocals to the track and as always, her own experience as a producer also came into play when she made suggestions that really enhanced the track. As always, we all had a great connection and worked hard to achieve a track that we would be very proud of.

With a pretty hectic subject matter but a very important song to write, what is your hope for anyone who listens to the track?

My hope is that for those out there that find themselves in the same position as ‘Wanderin’ Girl’ to reach out, never feel that you can’t get back in touch, that you can’t go back home to be with those that love you and will have you back under any circumstances because the love is there.

Even though you have been busy with the release of Wandering Girl, you have already been looking at next year and have a single coming out in January, give us the exclusive, what can you tell us about what you are coming up with next in terms of music?

My next release out in January is touching on another challenging subject matter and that is the subject of domestic abuse. It is called ‘Sunglasses in the Rain and for anyone who has faced or is facing this devastating and sometimes even fatal form of abuse this song will definitely resonate with them. How do I know this? I know because the song was written from a place of truth. My own personal truth.

You have had such an amazing career and still remain relevant and still release such great music, what advice would you have for any comers wanting to get into the music industry.

I would say take the time to learn your craft. “It’s a marathon not a sprint”.

Make sure you have the experience of your stage craft in place. Rehearse, Rehearse, Rehearse. Perform at the opening of a postage stamp if you have to, but just keep hammering away at your craft. As the late great iconic Lady of Rock, the amazing Tina Turner said to me when I was only seventeen years old and when I shared the same stage as her, “Never Ever Give Up”.

If you could collaborate with any other musician, who would it be?

Though there are quite a few, the ones at the top of my list would be, Gary Barlow, (Take That) he always comes across with such humility and

two other incredible musicians and songwriters would be Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus from Abba.

Thank you for doing this interview, do you have any last messages for our readers?

Thank you sincerely for all your love and support.

Please just be kind to each other.
