Singletons Have Never Been More Excited for Valentine’s Day
Aunty Helynn is largely to blame as she gears up for the release of her Debut Single, “Heart”.
Meet Aunty Helynn, a pop music sensation from Johannesburg, South Africa. She is the alter-ego of Douglas Vrey, a boy who has been passionate about music since before his birth (we’ve got his mother on speed dial if you don’t believe us).
This Valentine’s Day (Friday, 14 February 2025) Aunty Helynn makes her musical debut on all major music streaming services with her highly anticipated single “Heart”.
Aunty Helynn began writing Heart all the way back in 2019, but the track fell by the wayside and was put into storage shortly after the onset of Covid-19, whereafter the responsibilities of adulthood took precedent. Despite this, Aunty Helynn decided to revisit the track in October 2024, when she felt convicted to launch her music career.
Produced by Jacques Du Plessis of High Seas Studios, Heart is a fierce pop/rock ballad layered with driving drumbeats and cosmic synths, which in 2025 offers something quite unique to the South African pop music scene. Du Plessis has worked with some of the industry’s most notable names including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Peter Gabriel, The Parlotones, as well as Desmond and the Tutus (to name but a few), a calibre of musicians that instantly won over Aunty Helynn’s praise and approval.
Inspired by the likes of ABBA, Florence & The Machine, Coldplay, and Chappell Roan, Aunty Helynn writes music not just for ears, but for souls too. Armed with sharp wit and a wicked sense of humour, Aunty Helynn seeks to transport her audience to another world through the power of her music and comedic charm.
Aunty Helynn is a mostly self-taught pianist and vocalist, who has been writing music for the past approximate 10 years.
Make sure to check out Aunty Helynn’s website and to follow her on social media to get the latest on her upcoming projects and escapades!
Heart will be available for streaming on all major music streaming services on Friday, 14 February 2025, and will be submitted to relevant radio stations for playlisting.
